It is an advantage to have some experience reading or following score/notation as we do use scores in rehearsals. Many of our members cannot sight-read and use their ears to really learn the music.
How will I learn the music?
We are taught all of the songs in rehearsal by Jake a bit at a time and we sing without accompaniment (backing tracks or piano) the whole time. Most of the time we learn section-by-section but every part gets plenty of 'singing action' in every rehearsal. We provide as many resources as possible to help you learn including rehearsal tracks and rehearsal recordings of us learning. We try to accommodate all learning preferences and styles. If you have a need that you would like to discuss with us, please email us.
I've never sung 'a capella' before, is that ok?
Of course! If you have sung in an accompanied choir before you may find it a little strange at first as you need to tune your listening skills into different cues from your choir-mates and keep you eyes fixed on Jake! The key to great choir singing is that listening skill, everything else will come with practice.
Do I have to audition?
We do not hold formal auditions to join KT6 Vocal Group, We will not ask you to perform for an audience or audition to the MD but part of the joining process invites you to up to 3 free taster sessions to assess if the choir is right for you and vice versa. During those taster sessions our MD will be assessing your musical qualities in a non-exposing way. We are a small group aiming to create a tight and harmonious sound, to achieve that we aim to create a cohesive, friendly and trusting environent for individuals to grow together. Any change introducing new singers needs to be a good experience for existing singers as well as the person joining us.
Are there performances, do I have to take part?
We are looking for members who want to perform. As a small group it is important to us that we are all working towards the same goals and are driven to create the best experience for our audiences as possible. We understand that 100% attendance is not possible but a desire to perform with us is important.
What if I miss rehearsals?
With a small number of singers it is really important that we sing together as much as possible. We do have an expectation that members will make every effort to attend rehearsals regularly and catch up with progress that they have missed. We provide as many resources as possible to help you keep up to date with progress. Please discuss any concerns you have when contacting us.
